Surfing to Success!

What's new at Gettysburg?

Happy New Year!  Hello, My name is Nick Mele and I am the new principal at Gettysburg Elementary School.  As many of you have probably heard, Mr. Scott Dille was recently promoted to principal of the Clovis North Educational Center.

A little bit about myself.  I am a proud product of the Clovis Unified School District. Growing up in Clovis, I attended Mickey Cox, Clark, and Clovis High Schools. After getting my degree in Business Administration from CSU Fresno, I decided to go a different route.  I turned towards education.   My educational career started at Clovis Elementary where I was a 4th grade teacher.  Leaving the classroom was a very hard decision for me, and being promoted to GIS at Clovis Elementary changed my focus.  Instead of concentrating on my class of 30 students, I now could affect an entire school.  After 3 years as the GIS at Clovis Elementary I was promoted to Learning Director at Clovis High School.  This was very exciting for me, as it was an awesome opportunity for me to “return home”.

All of these wonderful experiences have led me to Gettysburg Elementary School.  I’m very excited about joining the Gettysburg family.  Feel free to stop by the office to introduce yourself as I’m looking forward to meeting each and every one of you.

Nicholas Mele

Congratulations to Mr. Dille who has been named principal of the Clovis North Educational Center. He will be greatly missed by the Gettysburg community, and we wish him the best of luck. He will start his new position as soon as a new principal is named for Gettysburg. Thank you Mr. Dille for helping us rock, race, and surf to success. Once a General, always a General.

Red Ribbon Week Oct. 24-27

Red Ribbon Week at Gettysburg

Gettysburg students had a special guest come to the Red Ribbon Week assembly.  A beautiful cheetah named Tango from Cat Haven!

Sixth grader and student council president Seth N. led the flag salute.  Next, sixth grader Josiah M. read the history of how Red Ribbon Week came to be observed.  Followed by fifth grader Gracie Y. who gave a speech about what this year's theme means, Your World Needs You, Stay Off Drugs!  Principal Mr. Dille then gave recognition to poster and essay winners.  To conclude the program, Mr. Dale Anderson from Cat Haven, spoke to the students about settings goals.  He then brought out the cheetah for the students to look at.  This week through Thursday, Oct. 27, the students are collecting "Coins for Cats" to help Cat Haven build a building for cheetahs in Kenya.  Students may bring in donations to their classrooms.

Thank you to Mrs. Donna Letson for another year of organizing this event!

CUSD history book available May 18!

Never before has the history of the schools within the Clovis system been assembled into a comprehensive, concise and easy-to-navigate format. The end result is a high-quality hardcover book with thoroughly researched information. The book begins with the history of how Clovis Unified was born with the subsequent chapters chronicling in-depth the history of each CUSD school. “50 Unified Years – Building a Tradition of Excellence in Clovis Unified Before, During and After Unification” will be available for purchase for $20 (including tax) beginning Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at www.cusd.com or by calling 559-327-9094.
